Introducing: Coralie Cicuto from France

Here comes the last of the 7 interviews that Golf 1 took at the Cádiz Cup, at Arcos Gardens in Andalucia, Spain, May 5th 2011. The last one is with a fabulous, french golfer, Coralie Cicuto, who was one of the winners at Cádiz Cup.  She a.o. writes about golf in France. Here goes the interview:

Name: Coralie Cicuto.

Where were you born?: I was born in  Maison Laffitte, November 8th 1985.

Where were you raised?  In Sergy, a suburb of Paris.

What are your familystatus? I´m single, I rent a flat and have a roommate.

When did you start playing golf?   In 1994. I was 9 years old.

Why did you start playing golf?  Because of my dad, he is a golfer and worked as a caddy.

What do you prefer a parkland course or a links?  Parkland golfcourses.

How many golfcourses are in France? I am not sure. I guess they´re around 600-800. (Well good guess Coralie! According to the World report of KPMG there are 578 golfcourses in France, in 2011.

What is your favorite golfcourse in France?  Morfountain in Paris. (According to www.top100golfcourses.com it is the no. 1 golfcourse in France, i.e. the best one! ). Golf Morfountain GC war built 1913 when the Duke of Guiche got his fathers permission to build a 9 holu golfcourse on an old hockey pitch in the Valliére park for the pleasure of himself and his friends. When the course opened golf-pro James Braide and French Champions Jean Gassiat and Arnaud Massy played the first round. During World War 1 the Duke opened the course for the public and in 1927 a Golf Club was founded –  Golf Club Association – which is still in function– The course is 5895 meters, par-70 and not the longest one in France).

What is your favorite golfcourse outside of France? Augusta National.

What is the most special golfcourse you have played on? Saint Nom La Breteche.   Le Golf de Saint nom la Breteche is situated west of Paris and 8 km south of Saint-Nom La Breteche.  You can see the website of the Club HERE: There are two 18 hole golfcourses, which were designed in 1959 and 1960 by Fred Hawtree and one 5 hole practice course, which opened 2000. Le golf de Saint-Nom La Breteche is internatioanally renowned because of the annual Trophée Lancôme, which is an invite and the course is closed during the tournament.

What is your handicap? My handicap is 1.

What is your lowest score and on which golfcourse did you achieve it? 66 at home in Sergy.

Have you participated in any other sports?  Swimming for 5 years and volleyball for 4 years.

What is your favorite food, your favorite dring, your favorite music, your favorite movie and your favorite book? My favorite food is Paella, as my mom prepares it with fish and whitewine; my favorite drink is Champagne; my favorite music are any kind of  black voices; my favorite movie is  Schindlers list and my favorite book is L´Etrange en Poet by Reiner Maria Rilke.

Who is your favorite french golfers name 1 female and 1 male? At the moment I can´t think of any.

Who are your favorite international golfers, name 1 female and 1 male ?  Female: Lorena Ochoa. Male: Tiger Woods.

What is your favorite club? My putter.

What is your occupation?  I write about golf.

What is the best thing about golf? How demanding it is and what it has to offer and that one can endlessly learn something new.

Do you notice an increased interest in golf in France and is it considered eliterian?  Golf is considered a rich mans sport – there are not many who can afford to pay €50 for 1 round og golf.

At last: What is you maingoal in life?  To travel.
