Of Monsters and Men – the Icelandic participants in the Open Championship 2012

We Icelanders have for a long time, ever since the days of our ancestors, the old Wikings entertained our neighbour nations with music and lyrics since Iceland (the country) and its folk have ever since the most ancient of ancient times been extremely creative.

Today the 141st Open Championship started at Royal Lytham & St Annes, in Lancashire, England and of course the golfstruck Icelandic nation is glued infront of the TV following the latest achievements of her favorite stars. Golf is the 2nd most popular sport in Iceland.

This morning the BBC played  an accoustic version of „Little Talks”, a song by the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men while showing the latest results from the Open.

Many here in Iceland were laughing about that Of Monsters and Men were Iceland´s only participants in the Open this year …. although we´re very much striving towards getting one of our young promising golfers there soon!

In that regard a special fund has been founded, supported by some of Iceland´s largest companys the likes of Eimskip (our largest shipping company); Flugleiðir (our largest airline); Íslandsbanki (the bank of Iceland) and Master Card.  The fund is named Forskot and here on Golf 1 there will be further news about this fund soon.  Contributions to the fund are most welcome.
