The Arctic Open on June 20th-June 23rd 2018
A game of midnight golf seems an unlikely prospect to many enthusiasts and few golfers have experienced this delight. But now you have a novel opportunity to participate in an event which features round the clock golf in mid-summer at high latitudes. Victory for Ragnhildur at Pinehurst!!!
Three Icelandic ladies competed in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, a tournament where 8 US University teams competed: Eastern Kentucky, Richmond, Gonzaga, Boston University, The University of Lousiana at Monroe, Longwood, Bucknell and Southern New Hampshire. The tournament took place at Pinehurst no. 8 in North Carolina, March 14th-16th 2018. Guðrún Brá in the footsteps of Eddie Pepperell
Guðrún Brá Björgvinsdóttir, from Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland is taking part in the Patsy Hankins Cup. The tournament takes place on March 8.-10. 2018 at the Doha GC, in Qatar. As everyone knows Eddie Pepperell won the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters tournament on the European Tour at the same location. Especially memorable is the bogey he got at the 400 m, par-4 12th hole there. Guðrún Brá stepped in Pepperells footsteps as you can see on the main photo accompanying this article. LET: Valdís Þóra in 3rd Place at the Ladies Classic Bonville in Australia!!!
Icelandic professional golfer, Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir, from the Golf Club Leynir in Akranes, Iceland, had a marvelous result at the Ladies Classic Bonville in Bonville, New South Wales, Australia. The tournament took place at the Bonville Golf Resort, February 22nd-25th 2018. Icelandic names and naming practice
The following is taken from the Iceandic Statistics: The analysis of naming practice in Iceland shows that: *only 200 given names (eiginnöfn) account for the names of almost 80% of the male or female population *more than 35% of people less than 30 years old inherit some of their grandparents’ given names. This percentage is higher for older generations *over 8% of people less than 50 years old inherit some of their parents’ names, more often men than women. “Anything is possible in Iceland” – Letter w/hand-drawn map instead of address arrives at its destination
Although Iceland is having a moment as a top travel destination, it hasn’t lost its small village charm. A letter with a hand-drawn map in place of a written-out address was mailed to a farm in Hvammssveit, West Iceland. Not only did it get processed through the mail system, it was successfully delivered to the correct address! Valdís Þóra took part in the Oates Vic Open
Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir is an Icelandic professional golfer, who currently plays on the Ladies European Tour (LET). She took part in The Oates Vic Open, the first LET tournament in 2018, held in co-operation with the ALPG. The Oates Vic took place on February 1st-4th 2018 on Tony Cashmore´s beautiful Beach and Creek Courses in the 13th Beach Golf Club in Barwon Head, Victoria, Australia. About the PGA of Iceland
Until 1988, there were almost exclusively English golf teachers in Iceland. The exception was Thorvald Ásgeirsson who had been involved in golf for years. The golf teachers who came to Iceland to teach had common ground in great competition and they were interested in competing under the banner of Iceland. It was the catalyst that brought John Drummond, Reyjavík Golf Club (1984 – 1991), David Barnwell, Akureyri Golf Club (1986 – still in operation in Iceland) and Phill Hunter, Regional Golf Club (1986-1996), together and they began to discuss the establishment of PGA Iceland. Ólafía Þórunn finished T-26 in the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic
Iceland´s Ólafía Þórunn Kristíndóttir had a great finish on the first LPGA-tournament of 2018, The Pure Silk Bahamans LPGA Classic. The tournament took place on January 25th-28th on the Ocean golfcourse in Nassau, Bahamas. Ólafía Þórunn finished the last 6 holes which were left of her 2nd round, 4 under par and then finished the 3rd round 5 under par, 68 strokes.
