Reflection on what happened in the week May 21st-27th 2012 in Golf in Iceland

On May 21st-May 23rd 2012 Stefán Már Stefánsson, GR (abbreviation for Golf Club Reykjavik) took part in the  Hauschlag NÖ Open tournament, which is part of  the German EPD Tour.  He had an accumulated score of 4 under par (73 67 72) and ended in the 10th position for which he got a check of € 745. The German golfer Marcel Haremza won with a score of 16 under par. The 1st tournaments in the 2 Icelandic Junior Series presented by Arion bank – May 19th and 20th 2012

There are two main Junior Series in Iceland and both of them are sponsored by Arion bank and all 6 tournaments of the Series are organized by the Icelandic Golf  Association. The Junior Series comprise of 6 tournaments 2 of them being the Icelandic Junior Championship in Stroke Play the other the Icelandic Junior Championship in Match Play. The teenagers are devided into groups according to gender and age. Reflection on what happened in the week May 14th-20th in Golf in Iceland

Among the best things that happened in the week May 14th – May 20th 2012 was that Kristján Þór Einarsson, GK, who plays golf with “The Colonels” at Nicholls State in Louisiana in the US was named Third team All-SLC at Nicholls State. Who were the 10 best American presidents in golf?

As a tribute to the US´s Independance Day,  whereas it is the 4th of July today here comes a little speculation on which  of the 44 US Presidents was the best playing golf and who had the lowest handicap.  Just a little hint, the lowest handicap among US Presidents is approximately 7. Which one of the 44 Presidents was the best at playing golf? Was it  Barack Obama, Dwight Eisenhower, the Bushes, Clinton or Kennedy? Introducing Icelanders who play on US College Golf Teams no. 5: Ólafur Björn Loftsson

Ólafur Björn Loftsson is Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play 2009.  He is a senior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and plays golf with the Charlotte 49´s.  Tomorrow he and and the 49´s will compete in the 2012 NCAA Greensboro Regional, May 17-19 at the East Course; Grandover Resort. Golf 1 will of course follow every move Ólafur Björn and the Niners make in the tournament closely. Reflection on what happened in the week May 7th-13th in Golf in Iceland – 4 Icelandic golfers played in tournaments abroad

There were 4 Icelandic golfers that played golf on tournaments abroad last week. We are all so proud of Birgir Leifur Hafþórsson, GKG, who made the cut at the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d´Armor Bretagne tournament, which took place at the Golf Blue Green Pléneuf Val André Golf Course in Pléneuf, France. The tournament is part of the Challenge Tour in Europe.  Birgir Leifur finished T-26 along with 6 others.  His total score was +9 over par, 289 strokes  (73 69 72 75). The Geysir golfcourse opened today – May 12th 2012

The Geysir golfcourse is a 9 hole, which plays as an 18 hole, par-74 golfcourse near by the worlds most famous hot spring, the one all the others are named after: Geysir.  It opened its doors to golfers today May 12th 2012 after having been shut during the winter. Today is Ingunn Gunnarsdóttir´s birthday – she´s 22 yrs old!!! Golf 1 wishes Ingunn a very happy Birthday!!! … and the choice whom to introduce of the excellent young Icelanders that play golf on Universities and Colleges in the US was an easy one tonight. Birgir Leifur T-58 in Pléneuf and Tinna T-39 in Kristianstad

Two Icelandic golf pro´s are playing abroad this weekend on tournaments in France and Sweden. Birgir Leifur Hafsteinsson carded a score of 73 strokes and is T-58 at the first round of the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d´Armor Bretagne tournament, which is part of the Challenge Tour.  Participants in the tournament are 156. The tournament takes place on the Golf Blue Green Pléneuf Val André Golf Couse in Pléneuf, France. The Lancôme tournament at Golf Club Hella – May 6th 2012

Last Sunday, May 6th 2012, Golf Club Hella at Rangárvellir (GHR) in Iceland, held its 13th annual all women´s tournament sponsored by French Cosmetics Giant Lancôme. This tournament marks the beginning of the Golf Season for many Women Golfers here in Iceland. GHR will celebrate its 60th birthday on June 22nd 2012.  It is after the Golf Club´s in Reykjavík, Akureyri and Vestmannaeyjar, the oldest Golf Club in Iceland.
