Ólafur Björn finished T-58 in the US Open Local Qualifying Pinewild CC

Ólafur Björn Loftsson, member of the Golf Club of Nes in Iceland, who plays golf with the College team of the Charlotte 49´s took part in the US Open Local Qualifying Pinewild CC. Ólafur Björn is former Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play, 2009. Ólafur Björn handed in a score of +4 over par, 76 strokes and ended up T-58. There were 8 who qualifyed and a score of 70 would have been necessary for Ólafur Björn to eye a chance of getting further. A new sign by the 1st tee of Grafarholt golfcourse in Reykjavík

The big 18 hole golfcourses in Reykjavík and surrounding towns have now opened their gates to golf anxious golfers, who are basically starved for a round of golf after a long and hard winter here in Iceland. Grafarholt golfcourse in Reykjavík belonging to Iceland´s oldest golfclub (founded in 1935); the Golfclub of Reykjavík (GR) openened this week, to be exact on Labor Day, May 1st. Arnór Ingi Finnbjörnsson made the cut in the Wells Fargo Championship Pre-Qualifying

Arnór Ingi Finnbjörnsson is  one of the Icelanders that plays golf collegially in the US, i.e. with his team  the Belmont Abbey Crusaders, in Charlotte, North-Carolina. In Iceland, Arnór Ingi is a member of the biggest Golf Club in Iceland, i.e. the Golf Club of Reykajvík (GR).  He currently is the Icelandic Champion in Match Play, 2011. Per Persson´s view on Iceland as a Golf Destination – The Swedish Experience

A conference was held today by Golf in Iceland, at the Hilton Nordica Hotel in Reykjavík. The subject matter of the conference was „Iceland as a golfing destination”. Among visiting guest speakers was Per Persson, Project Manager Golf & Research from Tourism in Skåne, Sweden. He spoke a.o. about the „Swedish experience” and what Sweden had done in order to attract golf tourists. Per started his speech by saying that it was nice to be back in Iceland. Reflection on what happened in the week 16th-22nd of April 2012 in Golf in Iceland no.1: Guðrún Brá Björgvinsdóttir T-9 at the Irish Girls U-18 Open Stroke Play Championship

Six girls from the Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfjörður competed in the Irish Girls U-18 Open Stroke Play Championship, held at Roganstown Hotel & Golf Club, in County Meath, Ireland, where you´ll also find the fabulous Nicklaus designed Killeen Castle golfcourse, venue of the Solheim Cup 2011.  The Irish Girls U-18 Open Stroke Play Championship was held 21st-22nd of April 2012. The first par-6 hole in Iceland?

The Golf Club in Vík, which actually is the Golf Club closest to the famous Eyjafjallajökull (which erupted and spewed tons of ash in the air and stopped air traffic all over Europe) has plans for enlarging its 1st par-5 hole to a par-6 hole, which would be the first par-6 hole on a golfcourse in Iceland. Introducing Icelanders who play on US College Golfteams no. 3: Kristján Þór Einarsson

There are 3 young Icelandic golfers playing on the Golf Team of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux,Louisiana. They are: ; Kristján Þór Einarsson, GK and Pétur Freyr Pétursson, GR and Andri Þór Björnsson, GR. This is the highest number of Icelandic golfers competing for one College Golf Team in the States or for that matter any Golf Team in the US. Axel Bóasson is fareing well in the SEC Championship at Sea Island in Georgia

Axel Bóasson is yet another Icelander who is studying (he is majoring in engineering) and playing College golf in the US.  Axel is the Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play 2011. In Iceland he´s a member of the Golf Club Keilir in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. In the States he plays golf with his team, the Bulldogs, at Mississippi State. Yesterday the SEC Championships started at Sea Island on Simmons Island in Georgia. The tournament is being held April 20th-April 22nd.
