Beautiful shots of geysirs in Iceland

Here you can see beautiful shots of geysirs in Iceland captured by the french photographer Alban Henderyckx, which he shot while on a trip in Iceland. All images are taken from a single RAW file and then processed in a lightroom. Most people don´t know that they can also go golfing on an excellent and challenging 9 hole golfcourse that overlooks the geysir area, when they are in Iceland. Challenging the course is because precision golf is required to get a good score on the Geysir golfcourse in Iceland … and then of course you´ll have to concentrate a bit harder than usual because you´ll always be tempted to watch the Read more

Why so many Icelanders still believe in invisible elves?

There is no co-incidence that many lava formations look like houses – and many Icelanders believe that invisible people live in those houses/lavastones. Look at the photo here above – can´t you imagine elves living next to the Club House of GS (Golf Club of Suðurnes) in Keflavík? The elv believe is especially predominant in Iceland´s 3rd largest town Hafnarfjörður often referred to today as the town of Wikings and Elves. There is a great article in The Atlantic describing why so many Icelanders still believe in elves. You can read the article by CLICKING HERE:

Iceland in the sunny 50´s

A little earlier today we here on Golf 1 posted a video clip of Reykjavík in 1926.  The inhabitants of Reykjavík were 21.ooo,- at that time. Here is another videoclip by American Hal Linker and his Icelandic wife Halla, who made this great footage in the 1950´s,  the time after the 2nd WW when Iceland was prospering in its newfound independence from the Danish Rule in 1944.  Reykjavík as can be heard on the video clip had reached a population of 55.000,-  Today 190.000 are living in Reykjavík. The Americans which at the time still had a base in Keflavík brought with them wealth and money, and everywhere roads and Read more

Bárðarbunga volcano raging under magnificent Northern Lights – Video Clip

What has a video clip on a volcano erupting under beautiful Northern Lights to do on a page on golf in Iceland? Nothing, alas to mention that there are at least 3 beautiful golf courses in the vicinity of Bárðarbunga volcano, where you can play golf if you want to combine three if not four things in Iceland: play golf, watch the Aurora borealis, see a volcano errupting and perhaps also go whale watching. Well, the Bárðarbunga volcano is in a very remote location and lies 225 km (122 miles) in a straight line northeast from Reykjavík.  There is no road to the volcano following that straigtht line, this is only Read more

Reykjavík in 1926 – No golf! – Video

This year, 2014, The Golf Club of Reykjavík celebrates its 80th birthday – since the Golf Club, the first in Iceland, was founded December 14th 1934. Its first name was the Golf Club of Iceland, but it changed its name the following year when more Golf Clubs were founded, in 1935 the Golf Club of Akureyri in the North of Iceland. It´s fun to see footage of how much the times have changed. Here is an old video of Reykjavík in 1926.  It´s hard to imagine, in the abundance of golf courses we have today in Iceland, 65 the most per capita in the world,  that there were no golf Read more

Gender equality reached St. Andrews …. finally

After 260 years women will finally be able to become members of  the venerable Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the Club often considered to be ” The Cradle of Golf.” It is curious considering that the hands that have rocked craddles though the centuries have mainly been women´s, mothers. Yet, mothers, sisters, wives, aunts, cousins, daughters have been excluded from this club so deeply steeped in tradition. This past September 18th will go down in history and long be remembered as one of the preciously few days, nowadays, where justice perseveres and inequality is leveled by equality. An outrageous breach of human rights right in the 21st Read more
