Election of a new president of the Icelandic Golf Union

For decades there have not been elections to the highest position in the Golf Union of Iceland until now, but on this weekend 2 electors from each of the 65 golfclubs of Iceland will have a chance to vote for a new president. Jón Ásgeir Eyjólfsson, the present president of the Icelandic Golf Union has announced that he will not seek reelection. The interview tonight (October 21st 2013) is with the 2012 Club Champion of GSE (short for Golf Club Setberg in Hafnarfjörður Iceland,) Hrafn Guðlaugsson, Hrafn studies in the Staates at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. An Icelandic Elf in the Voice of Germany

This may not seem as the most appropriate news flash on a golfwebsite, but since everyone here in Iceland is so overjoyed, we will just go on and  publish it. Þórunn Egilsdóttir, an Icelandic singer took part in the Voice of Germany last night, October 18th 2013. Introducing Icelanders who play on US College Golf teams no. 10: Sunna Víðisdóttir – Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play 2013

The interview tonight is with Sunna Víðisdóttir, GR (i.e. of Golf Club Reykjavík) who became Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play on July 28th 2013.  The Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play was this time held at Golf Course Korpúlfsstaðir which is Sunna´s home course. 6 Icelandic golfers got grants from Forskot

On June 26th 2013 it was announced who those Icelandic golfers were, who are sponsored this year by Forskot, an Icelandic Achievement Fund For Golfers. Founders of the Fund are Eimskip (Icelands biggest shipping company), Valitor  (Mastercard Iceland), the Icelandic Golf Federation, Íslandsbanki (one of the 3 biggest banks in Iceland) and Icelandair Group (largest airline in Iceland). It´s been a while since there have been updates on golf in Iceland here on Golf 1 this past month of July, since this is really the high season in golf in Iceland, as in other probably in most other parts of the world.
