Yesterday there was a golftournament in the middle of winter in Sandgerði, a little town in the South-West of Iceland of  1683 inhabitants ; Iceland´s 26th most populated municipality; (as of January 2011). 94 golfers were competing in a temperature of 0° Celsius (32° Fahrenheit), at least the sun shone and there wasn´t much wind and there was no snow on the golf course. There is a golftournament scheduled in Sandgerði, Iceland on January 12th 2013. One might think that it would be to cold to play, yet there are 88 contestants thereof 7 women. Fannar Ingi Steingrímsson is only 14 years old, yet he is at this young age one of Iceland´s most promising young golfers. He is from a beautiful town in the South of Iceland, Hveragerði, which is famous for its numerous hot springs and fumaroles. Siglufjörður is a small village in the North of Iceland and its current number of inhabitants (according to the  Statistics Office in Iceland as of February 14th 2012) are 1217; 609 male and 608 female. Siglufjörður used to be the commercial capital of Iceland early in the 20th century in the Herring Era, when herring was the Iceland´s main export.
