Iceland in the sunny 50´s

A little earlier today we here on Golf 1 posted a video clip of Reykjavík in 1926.  The inhabitants of Reykjavík were 21.ooo,- at that time.

Here is another videoclip by American Hal Linker and his Icelandic wife Halla, who made this great footage in the 1950´s,  the time after the 2nd WW when Iceland was prospering in its newfound independence from the Danish Rule in 1944.  Reykjavík as can be heard on the video clip had reached a population of 55.000,-  Today 190.000 are living in Reykjavík.

The Americans which at the time still had a base in Keflavík brought with them wealth and money, and everywhere roads and houses, Iceland´s infrastructure was being built.  You can say that these times were sunny for Iceland and Icelanders. See the video clip by CLICKING HERE:

A little later, a.o. because of encouragement from Americans stationed at the Keflavík base the golf course in Keflavík was established some 50 years ago, in 1964.  This golfcourse is the closest to the only international airport in Iceland, in Keflavík. So if you want a quick round of golf just before arriving or departuring Iceland, GS (The 18 hole golf course of The Golf Club of Suðurnes) in Keflavík is the ideal one to play (along with the other 18 hole great golf courses close by Kirkjubols course in Sandgerði and the 18 hole golf course near by the Blue Lagoon in Grindavík)
