Iceland one of 6 „hidden golf travel destination pearls”

A year ago at one of the largest Golf-Travel Fairs, which was held in Turkey, Iceland was chosen one of 6 „hidden pearls” when it comes to golf travel destinations.

IAGTO (The Global Golf Tourism Organisation) was the one that presented the award, and 160 golfwriters from 33 countries comprised the panel of judges.

The other hidden golf travel destination gems along with Iceland were Colombia, The State of Mississippi, India, Galicia in Spain and Bulgaria. Bulgaria receiven the title „THE Hidden Pearl” and no doubt the great golf resort of Thracian Cliffs, designed by Gary Player, plays a part there in.

Tourists coming to Iceland have doubled in amount these past 10 years and the growth in tourism in Iceland has been astounding. Golf travel is increasing and golf tourists are flocking to Iceland, especially during the high season in May-September.

Most do not know that some Icelandic golfers play golf all year round… even when the winds are near gale and when it´s snowing and hailing.

The Organization „Golf in Iceland” has done a good job putting Iceland on the worlds golfing map and most 18 hole golf courses in Iceland along with a.o. the Icelandic Golf Association and the Icelandic Tourist Board are part of the Organization.
