Reflection on what happened in the week May 7th-13th in Golf in Iceland – 4 Icelandic golfers played in tournaments abroad

There were 4 Icelandic golfers that played golf on tournaments abroad last week.

We are all so proud of Birgir Leifur Hafþórsson, GKG, who made the cut at the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d´Armor Bretagne tournament, which took place at the Golf Blue Green Pléneuf Val André Golf Course in Pléneuf, France. The tournament is part of the Challenge Tour in Europe.  Birgir Leifur finished T-26 along with 6 others.  His total score was +9 over par, 289 strokes  (73 69 72 75). The one who won the tournament was Eddie Pepperell from England, who had a combined score of 277 strokes as did Dane Jeppe Huldahl. So there was a playoff which Pepperell won on the 1st hole.

Tinna Jóhannsdóttir, GK took part in the Kristianstad Åhus Ladies Open,in Sweden, the tournament being part of the LET Access Series. Participants in the tournament were 120.  Unfortunatelly Tinna didn´t make the cut. She had a combined score of +15 over par, 159 strokes (76 83).  The scores were rather high, the best scores after 2 days of play was Melodie Bourdie´s from France, who played on even par, 144 strokes (70 74). She is the sister of Grégory Bourdy who plays on the European Tour.

In the 3rd and final round Norwegian Cecilie Lundgreen won with a score of 77 strokes.

Rúnar Arnórsson, GK. Photo Golf 1

Rúnar Arnórsson, GK, participated in the Irish Amateur Open.  Just as Tinna, he didn´t make the cut. Rúnar finished with a combined score of +15 over par, 159 strokes (79 80) and was 7 strokes from making the cut.

And finally Ólafía Þórunn Kristinsdóttir, GR and Wake Forest, participated in the NCAA D1 Women´s East Regional at the Golf Course of Penn State in Pennsylvania, US of A.

The Regionals took place May 10th through May 12th.

Ólafía Þórunn finished with a combined score of +14 over par, 230 strokes (77 78 75). She had the 4th best score of her team. Cheyenne Woods, Tiger´s niece had the best score.

The Wake Forest team ended placed 14th of the 24 Colleges that participated.
