Geysir í Haukadal er sérstæðasti golfvöllur sem Ragnhildur hefir spilað. Það sem henni finnst m.a. sérstakt við völlinn er að hafa gjósandi hveri í mestu nálægð meðan spilað er golf. Mynd: Golf 1.

The Geysir golfcourse opened today – May 12th 2012

The Geysir golfcourse is a 9 hole, which plays as an 18 hole, par-74 golfcourse near by the worlds most famous hot spring, the one all the others are named after: Geysir.  It opened its doors to golfers today May 12th 2012 after having been shut during the winter. According to the Geysir golfclub the course is in good condition and probably alot of golfers who are anxious to play a round of golf again on that gorgeous golfcourse.

The name Geysir is derived from the Icelandic verb “geysa” which means to gush and that is what the geysirs do they gush hot water up in the air and once you´re in Iceland that´s a spectacle you definately do not want to miss.

Most tourists in Iceland will want to see what Icelanders call the “Golden Triangle” i.e. Geysir, Gullfoss (transliterated: the Gull=Golden Foss=Waterfall) and Þingvellir (ancient site of the oldest parliamentary institution in the world the Althingi, founded 930).

Well, lets not drift away from the subject matter: the Geysir golfcourse.  Whilst taking a trip to the Golden Triangle you should definately take along or rent a set of golfclubs and try out the Geysir golfcourse.  There are few places in the world where you can actually play golf and see hot springs spout as your standing on the fairway.

The Geysir golfcourse´s name in Icelandic is Haukadalsvöllur.  It is a beautiful course, and despite being only a 9 hole course, as of now, it is a demanding course which especially tests your skill of playing precise pin-point golf. It has super-fast greens, suprising for a 9 hole course some of the fastest in Iceland.  And…if your not hitting the fairways, your´re in trouble. You´ll have a hard time finding your golfball in the rough.  Also… water comes into play on almost every hole on the course, i.e. the two rivers that run through the course: Almenningsá and Beiná.

Golf 1 will introduce the facinating Geysir golfcourse in detail later. But just so that you know the course is open, and if you decide to try it out you´re in for an extaraordinary golfing experience, one you will cherish for times to come.
