Three hot, young players lead after the 3rd day of the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play
After the 3rd day of the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play has come to an end there are three hot, young players in the lead.
In the Women´s flight it´s Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir, GL and Texas State, who has a 1 stroke lead on Tinna Jóhannsdóttir, from Keilir Golf Club. Valdís Þóra is former Icelandic Champion in Stroke Play 2009 and after a rather dissapointing last year, she seems to be back in form, since aside from leading in Iceland´s biggest and most venerable tournament, she recently became Club Champion of her Club, Golf Club Leynir (GL), in Akranes. In a short interview with Golf 1 Valdís Þóra vowed to do her best tomorrow in winning back the Championship title in Stroke Play.
Two are leading in the Men´s flight Haraldur Franklin Magnús, from Golf Club Reykjavík (GR), our current Icelancic Champion in Match Play and Club Champion of GR and Rúnar Arnórsson from Keilir Golf Club. Both have a combined score of 5 under par each, after the 3rd day of the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play.
Haraldur shot the lowest score of the tournament today a magnificent 64! In that round he a.o. carded 2 eagles.
Haraldur Franklin is attempting to win the title for GR, since 27 yrs. have gone by without anyone from GR claiming the Men´s Icelandic Championship title in Stroke Play. The last GR Champion was Sigurður Pétursson in 1985. Haraldur Franklin was firm in a short interview with Golf 1 about his intentions of winning the Championship title for GR tomorrow.
In a short interview with Golf 1 Rúnar Arnórsson on the other hand, stated that he was going to enjoy his final round tomorrow and have fun on the golfcourse. Rúnar has consistently carded scores way under par this year and it was to the surprise of many that he didn´t earn a spot on the Icelandic Men´s National Team.
