Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir and Rúnar Arnórsson lead after the 1st day of the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play

The first day of the Icelandic Championship in Stroke Play started today.  The first honorary stroke was struck by Jón Ásgeir Eyjólfsson, president of the Icelandic Golf Association.

His golf stroke was straight and pin point on the fairway.  Thus the 70th Championship commenced.  This is also the  70th Anniversary of the Icelandic Golf Association.

Leader of 123 participants in the Men´s flight is Rúnar Arnórsson, from Keilir Golf Club in Hafnarfjörður.  He played the par-70 golfcourse, Strandarvöllur, of Golf Club Hella, Rangárvöllum (often abbreviated to GHR), which celebrates its 60th anniverary,  in 66 strokes; got 5 birdies and 1 unfortunate bogey (on the most difficult hole of the course the par-4, 14th).

The leader of the 27 women participants is Valdís Þóra Jónsdóttir, from GL i.e. the Golf Club Leynir in Akranes. Valdís Þóra just recently became Club Champion at GL. She also plays golf with Texas State in the US . She leads with 1 over par, 71 strokes.
